You have opened your astrocartography map, and now you are staring at forty lines crossing the planet. Which one is the Venus line everyone talks about? Is a Saturn line as bad as the forums say? And what does it mean that a Pluto line runs straight through the city you were about to move to?
This guide answers all of it. Every planet, every angle, in plain words. If you have not pulled up your own map yet, start with my beginner guide to reading your astrocartography map, then come back here with your lines in front of you.
How to Read Any Line: Planet Plus Angle
Every line is a combination of two things.
The planet supplies the theme: Venus brings love and ease, Saturn brings work and weight, Mercury brings words and ideas.
The angle supplies the life area. Each planet makes four lines, and the angle tells you where the theme lands. A rising line (AC) colors you: your identity, energy, and how you come across. A setting line (DC) works through other people: partners, clients, close friends. A culminating line (MC) shapes your career and public reputation. A roots line (IC) shapes home, family, and your inner life.
So before reading any line on your map, name both parts. Venus MC is not “a Venus place.” It is Venus in your career: a well-liked public image. Venus IC is Venus at home: beauty and comfort filling your private life. Same planet, different rooms.
One more rule from my client work: gentle and strong is a more useful split than good and bad. The Sun, Moon, Venus, and Jupiter lines are the gentle ones. They tend to feel good with little effort. Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are the strong ones. They can grow you enormously, but they ask more of you. Mercury and Mars sit in between. No line is a punishment, and no line is a free ride.
Sun Lines: Visibility and Vitality
The Sun is your life force and your sense of self.
On a Sun rising line you feel alive and visible. People notice you, and you like being noticed. On a Sun setting line you are seen through your partners, and the people you pair with tend to be confident and bright. On a Sun MC line your work gets noticed, which makes it a classic choice for building a public career. On a Sun IC line you feel at home in yourself, one of the quiet, underrated placements for contentment.
Seek Sun lines when you feel invisible in your current life. Skip them when you need rest more than attention.
Moon Lines: Belonging and Feeling
The Moon rules your emotional life and your need to be held.
On a Moon rising line your caring side shows and your feelings sit close to the surface. On a Moon setting line you attract nurturing people who want to look after you. On a Moon MC line you become known for how you make people feel, which suits healers, teachers, and anyone in care work. On a Moon IC line you get a deep sense of belonging, the feeling of being home in your bones. Many people cry the first time they visit their Moon IC city and cannot explain why.
I wrote about a famous Moon line in Obama’s astrocartography, where the Moon’s public side played out in full view.
Seek Moon lines for family chapters, healing, and rest. Be careful with them if your natal Moon is tense, because the volume goes up on everything it touches.
Mercury Lines: Words and Ideas
Mercury rules thinking, talking, learning, and trade.
On a Mercury rising line your mind and voice sharpen. On a Mercury setting line you connect through ideas and talk, and your relationships fill with conversation. On a Mercury MC line you become known for your words and teaching. On a Mercury IC line you get a good place to study and write.
Writers, coaches, and online teachers do well near Mercury lines. I run my own teaching business 1.3 degrees from a Mercury setting line in Vienna, and the courses, messages, and client calls have not stopped since I arrived.
Venus Lines: Love, Beauty, and Ease
Venus is the line most people search for, and for good reason.
On a Venus rising line you feel warm and attractive, and other people agree. On a Venus setting line love and warmth come more easily, which makes it the classic line for meeting a partner. On a Venus MC line you get a well-liked, attractive public image, useful for any business where people need to enjoy you. On a Venus IC line beauty and comfort fill your home.
My own Venus MC line ran through my UK years, and my work was received more warmly there than anywhere since. Venus lines are gentle almost without exception. The only caution: ease can turn into comfort-seeking. Venus places are better for enjoying life than for forcing discipline.
Mars Lines: Drive and Heat
Mars brings energy, courage, and friction.
On a Mars rising line you get more energy and drive, and a shorter fuse. On a Mars setting line you attract strong, driven people, and sometimes combative ones. I lived on my Mars setting line on the Spanish coast, and the intense, ambitious people who filled that chapter of my life match the line exactly. On a Mars MC line you are seen as bold and ambitious. On a Mars IC line home life gets busy and restless, and household arguments come easier.
Seek Mars lines to launch something demanding. Avoid them for retirement, recovery, or any chapter where peace is the goal. Trump’s Mars line through Washington is the textbook public example.
Jupiter Lines: Growth and Luck
Jupiter is the traditional great benefic, the planet of expansion.
On a Jupiter rising line you feel luckier and more open, and you take up more space in the best way. On a Jupiter setting line generous people and mentors appear. On a Jupiter MC line your career and name grow, the classic line for professional leaps. On a Jupiter IC line home feels abundant and safe.
The caution with Jupiter is excess. Everything grows here, including your calendar, your appetite, and your spending. Growth is not the same as ease, but of all the lines, Jupiter is the one most people are glad they tried.
Saturn Lines: Work and Weight
Saturn has the worst reputation in astrocartography, mostly undeserved.
On a Saturn rising line life feels serious and you mature fast. On a Saturn setting line relationships are committed but weighty, with older or more serious partners. On a Saturn MC line you build a slow, solid reputation through real work. On a Saturn IC line home can feel demanding or lonely, and this is the one Saturn placement I genuinely recommend approaching with care.
People build careers, degrees, and businesses on Saturn lines. They do not usually build happiness there. Treat Saturn places like a training block: go for a defined chapter with a defined goal, then leave with what you built.
Uranus Lines: Freedom and Change
Uranus breaks patterns.
On a Uranus rising line you feel free and different, and you reinvent yourself. On a Uranus setting line relationships turn unusual and on-and-off. On a Uranus MC line your career becomes unconventional and changeable. On a Uranus IC line you get a restless home you keep reinventing.
I live 0.2 degrees from my Uranus IC line in Vienna, and I have redesigned my home, my schedule, and my business more times than I can count since moving here. It suits a woman who rebuilt her working life around teaching and healing. It would exhaust someone who wants a rocking chair and a routine. That is the Uranus deal: freedom in exchange for stability.
Neptune Lines: Spirit and Soft Focus
Neptune dissolves edges.
On a Neptune rising line you become dreamy and sensitive, and your intuition opens. On a Neptune setting line you attract artistic, elusive people, and you should read contracts twice. On a Neptune MC line you get a spiritual public image and sometimes foggy career direction. On a Neptune IC line home feels soft but unclear, lovely for a retreat, disorienting for a decade.
Neptune lines are wonderful for spiritual work, creative sabbaticals, and retreats. They are risky for major financial and legal decisions. Visit your Neptune line to write the book. Do not sign the mortgage there.
Pluto Lines: Depth and Transformation
Pluto changes you at the root.
On a Pluto rising line you go through intense personal change. On a Pluto setting line bonds run deep and powerful, and power struggles come with them. On a Pluto MC line your career carries power and upheaval. On a Pluto IC line home becomes a place of deep change.
My Pluto IC line ran through my UK years, and home there dismantled and rebuilt me more than once. I would not trade what it taught me, and I would not casually recommend it either. Pluto lines transform. Go there to change. Leave when the change is done.
The Quick Answer: Best Lines for Love, Money, Career, and Home
For love, look at Venus lines first, especially Venus setting. Jupiter setting adds generous partners, and Moon setting adds nurturing ones.
For money, Jupiter MC and Venus MC lead. Jupiter grows your name and opportunities, Venus makes people enjoy paying you.
For career, take the MC line of the planet whose work you want. Sun MC for visibility, Mercury MC for teaching and writing, Saturn MC for long institutional climbs.
For home and belonging, Moon IC and Sun IC are the classics, with Venus IC for a beautiful home and Jupiter IC for an abundant one.
For rest and healing, gentle lines only: Moon, Venus, Sun IC, or honest neutral ground with no major line at all.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Saturn line always bad?
No. Saturn lines are demanding, not cursed. They suit chapters with a concrete goal: a qualification, a business build, a savings target. The mistake is settling under Saturn indefinitely and wondering why life never lightens.
What happens on a Venus line?
Daily life gets warmer. People are friendlier, social invitations increase, and romantic opportunities come with less effort. On Venus MC that warmth flows toward your work and reputation. It is a tilt, not a spell: you still have to leave the house.
Which line is the strongest?
Whichever sits closest to you. A Pluto line at 0.3 degrees will out-shout a Jupiter line at 4 degrees. After distance, the outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) tend to feel more forceful than the inner ones, which is exactly why the gentle lines are the better default for living.
What if two lines run through the same place?
Read them together, strongest first. Venus plus Pluto is intense love, not casual ease. Jupiter plus Mars is ambitious growth with a temper. My Spain years carried Venus MC, Pluto IC, and Mars setting at once, and life there was exactly that blend: warm public work, transforming home life, fiery people.
Do these meanings change based on my birth chart?
Yes, and this is the honest limit of any general guide. A line amplifies your natal planet, condition and all. If your natal Venus is challenged, a Venus line raises those themes too. That is why two people on the same line live different stories, and why a personal reading reads your chart and your map together rather than either alone.
Put Your Lines Together
Pull up your map and find the three lines closest to the places that matter in your life. Name each one, planet plus angle, and check it against what actually happened there. That exercise teaches you more than any list of meanings.
When you want the full picture, my Geo Astrology reading decodes every line through your specific birth chart, city by city, in plain words. And if you are still getting to know your chart itself, start with a birth chart reading or check what profection year you are in, because timing changes how every line feels.
The map does not decide for you. It just tells you what is turned up loud, everywhere on Earth. Now you speak its language.
