And unlike many industries, the barriers to entry are low. You need a Reiki certification, a genuine desire to help people, and a willingness to show up consistently online.

Get Certified and Keep Learning

Every Reiki business starts with a solid certification. At minimum, you need Reiki Level 1 to practise self-healing and work with willing friends and family. For paid professional practice with clients, most professional associations recommend Level 2 or above.

  • Level 1: Self-healing, informal practice with family and friends. Get this free at Blissful Careers.
  • Level 2: Professional client sessions, distance healing, Reiki symbols. Recommended before charging.
  • Master / Teacher: Perform attunements, teach Reiki, advanced healing. Opens the door to teaching as an income stream.

Beyond Reiki levels, consider adding complementary certifications over time — crystal healing, chakra therapy, sound healing, or coaching. The more tools you have, the more services you can offer.

  • Group Healing Sessions: Healing circles, workshops, or online group sessions. Higher leverage — one session serves many clients.
  • Online Courses: Record your teachings once, sell indefinitely. Passive income that scales without your time.

  • Website: Simple is fine to start. You need: a home page, an about page, a services/sessions page, and a way to book or enquire. Platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, or Wix work well.
  • Google Business Profile: Free, and essential for local visibility. Even if you work online, set this up — it adds significant credibility.
  • Social media: Choose ONE platform and show up there consistently. Instagram works well for healing businesses (visual, community-driven). TikTok is excellent for reach. Facebook groups are good for community building.
  • Email list: Start building your list from day one. Your email list is the only audience you truly own — algorithm changes, platform bans, and social media don't affect it.

The first 10 clients are the hardest. After that, word of mouth, testimonials, and online visibility do much of the work for you. Here's how to get started:

  • Offer free or discounted sessions to 5–10 friends and family first. Ask for honest testimonials in return. These are gold for your website and social media.
  • Tell your network. Most first clients come from people who already know you. Post about what you're doing on personal social media. You'll be surprised who responds.
