The heart chakra is the one that takes the hits. Breakups, grief, a friend who stopped calling, the slow ache of a job where nobody sees you. All of it lands in the center of the chest, and all of it can be worked with. Crystals for the heart chakra are the gentlest way in. As a Crystal Reiki Master I use them in almost every session, and in this guide I share the twelve stones I reach for, what each one is best for, and exactly how to use them so the energy actually moves.
The heart chakra in two minutes
The heart chakra, Anahata in Sanskrit, is the fourth chakra and sits at the center of the chest, just to the left of the physical heart. It is the middle chakra, the bridge between the three lower chakras that keep you grounded in the body and the three upper chakras that connect you to spirit. Its color is green, with soft pink as its secondary color. It governs love, compassion, forgiveness, emotional balance and your connection to other people, and on the physical side it is linked to the heart, lungs, chest area, arms, hands and circulation.
A healthy heart chakra feels like an open heart: you give and receive love without keeping score. A blocked heart chakra feels like old wounds that never close, jealousy, fear of intimacy, grief that will not shift, or emotional numbness. Physically it shows up as a tight chest, shallow breathing, blood pressure swings and feelings of loneliness that sit in the body. If you are not sure the heart is your blocked chakra, take the free chakra quiz first, or read how to know which chakra is blocked.

The 12 heart chakra crystals in detail
1. Green aventurine, the stone of opportunity
If you only buy one of the heart chakra stones, buy this one. Green aventurine is affordable, easy to find, and it has the softest energy of all the green stones. It is called the stone of opportunity because it opens the heart to new beginnings: a new relationship, a new chapter after loss, a new way of treating yourself. It works on emotional balance without forcing anything. I give it to students who have just come out of a long relationship and are not ready for anything intense. Keep a tumbled piece in your pocket and roll it between your fingers when the chest tightens.
2. Rose quartz, the stone of unconditional love
Rose quartz is the pink heart stone everyone knows, and it earns its reputation. Its energy is softer than green aventurine, almost maternal. It supports self love first and romantic love second, which is the right order. Rose quartz is my go to for grief, heartbreak and loneliness. Wear it as a pendant that rests over the center of your chest, sleep with a piece under your pillow, or hold a palm stone during the two minute breathing practice below. Pair it with green aventurine when you want both healing and forward movement.
3. Green jade, the stone of harmony
Jade has been a heart stone across cultures for thousands of years. It supports emotional stability and harmonious relationships, and it carries a quiet sense of luck. Where rose quartz soothes, jade steadies. Wear it as a bracelet or carry it when you are rebuilding trust with someone, including yourself.
4. Rhodonite, for forgiveness and old wounds
Rhodonite is pink with black veins, and the black matters. It grounds the heart work so you can look at past wounds without being swept away. This is the stone for forgiveness, for emotional trauma that still runs your reactions, and for the moment you decide to stop carrying a resentment. In Crystal Reiki I place rhodonite directly on the heart center during the session. At home, lie down with it on your chest for ten minutes and breathe.
5. Rhodochrosite, for the inner child
Raspberry pink rhodochrosite goes further back than rhodonite. It reaches the emotional wounds from childhood, the ones that formed before you had words. It brings self compassion and, over time, joy. It is a strong stone, so start with short meditations, holding it at the heart space, and journal afterwards. Many of my students find tears come easily with this one. That is the heart chakra opening.
6. Malachite, for deep transformation
Malachite is the heavyweight of heart healing crystals. Banded deep green, it pulls emotional pain to the surface fast so it can be released. It is also protective, which is why healers use it. Treat it with respect: use it in short sessions, never in water, and cleanse it after every use. If rose quartz is a warm bath, malachite is a strong massage. Choose it when you are ready to move something that has been stuck for years.
7. Green calcite, for stress and softening
Green calcite is pale, waxy and calming. It dissolves stress held in the chest and softens a heart that has gone hard from protecting itself. It is perfect on the bedside table or as a tumbled stone in a warm bath. Good for anyone whose heart block comes from burnout rather than heartbreak.
8. Emerald, for loyalty and heart health
Emerald is the precious version of the heart stone and the one most linked to physical heart health in crystal tradition. It supports loyalty, long term healthy relationships and emotional resilience. If you own emerald jewelry, wear it on days when you need to lead with love rather than fear.
9. Prehnite, the healer’s heart stone
Prehnite is yellow green and translucent, and it is known as the stone that heals the healer. It connects the heart to the solar plexus so you can give from a full cup and hold boundaries with clients, family and friends. If you do Reiki, coaching or any kind of care work, keep prehnite in your session space.
10. Green tourmaline, for vitality
Green tourmaline brings energy into the heart chakra rather than just calming it. It supports compassion and a calm nervous system at the same time. Pair it with rose quartz in a crystal grid when you want the heart to feel both open and strong.
11. Unakite, for patience in the healing journey
Unakite is green and pink in one stone, which makes it the natural choice for long healing processes where emotion and body need to catch up with each other. Carry it through a divorce, a recovery or a season of grief. It does not rush you.
12. Green fluorite, for clarity
Green fluorite clears the mental fog that sits on top of heavy emotion. Hold it while you journal about a relationship and the words come more easily. It also cleanses the heart space of other people’s energy, which makes it useful after difficult conversations.

How to use heart chakra crystals: 5 methods that work
Crystals do not work from a drawer. Here are the ways I teach, from the simplest daily use to a full chakra layout.
- Wear it over the heart. A pendant on a chain long enough to rest at the center of your chest keeps the stone on the chakra point all day. Rose quartz, green aventurine and jade are all good for daily wear. Which wrist to wear a bracelet on is covered in what chakra bracelets do.
- The two minute heart breath. Sit, hold the stone in both hands against your chest, close your eyes. Breathe in for four counts, picture soft green light filling the heart space, breathe out for six counts, release what you no longer need. Two minutes, morning or evening. This is the single most effective practice on this page.
- Lie down with the stone on your chest. For rhodonite, rhodochrosite, malachite and rose quartz. Ten to fifteen minutes, hand resting on top of the crystal, slow breathing. Add Reiki hands if you are attuned. This is how I run the heart portion of a crystal healing session.
- Build a heart chakra grid. Rose quartz in the center, four green aventurine points around it, green tourmaline or clear quartz at the corners. Set it where you will see it daily and state your intention when you place the last stone.
- Sleep with it. Rose quartz or green calcite under the pillow or on the bedside table. The heart does a lot of processing at night.
Pairing heart chakra crystals with other chakras
The heart rarely blocks on its own. In my sessions the most common pattern is a root chakra block underneath (fear of not being safe) feeding a heart block on top (fear of being hurt). So pair your heart stones with a grounding stone: black tourmaline or red jasper at the feet or in the pocket while you work on the heart. The second most common pattern is heart plus throat, when you feel love but cannot say it. Add blue lace agate at the throat. My chakra colors and stones chart lists the stones for every chakra, and crystals for throat chakra healing covers the throat in depth.

How to cleanse and charge heart chakra crystals
Heart stones absorb emotional energy, so they need cleansing more often than most. Once a week is a good rhythm, and always after a heavy session.
- Water safe: rose quartz, green aventurine, jade, green tourmaline, emerald, prehnite, unakite. Rinse under running water for a minute.
- Keep dry: malachite, rhodochrosite, green calcite and green fluorite can be damaged by water. Cleanse with sage or palo santo smoke, sound, or by resting on a selenite plate.
- Charge: moonlight overnight works for all of them. Avoid direct sun for rose quartz and fluorite, which fade.
- Reiki: if you are attuned, hold the stone and run Reiki for a minute. It cleanses and charges in one go. The free Reiki Level 1 course gets you there.
Signs your heart chakra crystals are working
Students ask how they will know. The signs are quiet but real: crying more easily and feeling lighter afterwards, breathing deeper without trying, reaching out to someone you had been avoiding, catching yourself being kinder in your own head. Physically, the chest feels more open and the shoulders drop. Give it two to four weeks of daily practice before you judge. If nothing shifts, the block is probably lower down, and the root chakra healing guide is where to go next.
A note on safety: crystals support emotional healing. They do not treat heart conditions, blood pressure or depression. See a doctor for physical symptoms and a therapist for emotional trauma, and use crystals alongside that care.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best crystal for the heart chakra?
Green aventurine for everyday balance and new beginnings, rose quartz for self love and grief. Most people benefit from using both together.
What color crystals are for the heart chakra?
Green is the primary heart chakra color, so green stones such as aventurine, jade, malachite and green calcite are the main choices. Pink is the secondary color, so rose quartz, rhodonite and rhodochrosite also work on the heart.
Where do you place crystals for the heart chakra?
On the center of the chest, just left of the breastbone, while lying down. For daily use, wear a pendant that rests at that point or keep a stone in a chest pocket.
How do I know if my heart chakra is blocked?
Common signs are grief that will not move, jealousy, fear of intimacy, emotional numbness, difficulty forgiving, a tight chest and shallow breathing. The free chakra quiz on this site can confirm it.
Can I wear heart chakra crystals every day?
Yes. Rose quartz, green aventurine, jade and emerald are all suited to daily wear. Cleanse them weekly. Malachite and rhodochrosite are better used in short sessions.
Which crystals should not be used together for the heart chakra?
Avoid pairing malachite with other intense stones such as moldavite when you are new to crystal work. Rose quartz and green aventurine pair with almost everything.
